"Origami Tessellations are geometric folded from a single sheet of paper, creating a repeated pattern of forms and shapes from folded pleats and twists". Quoted in Eric Gjerdes book Origami Tessellations Awe Inspring Geometric Design
I began my obsession with paper folding through creating simple origami boxes. It fascinated me that you can transform one single sheet of paper into gorgeous objects and designs. As paper was easily accessible, it is a hobby that can be started with very little outlay so there were no obstacles in my way to begin.
As I got better and started to exhume my collection of origami instructions, I sought more complex and challenging "puzzles" to complete. Folding paper is very meditative for me and is a task that holds my attention. With what some would call a monkey brain (a thought pattern that swings from one thing to another in seconds), having a project that calms my thoughts and holds my interest is a great form of relaxation for me, so I searched for more.
Upon my search I came across pictures of Origami Tessellations. They captured my attention with their visually stunning designs and mostly my curiosity for how they were created. I had to learn how to create these for myself. I entered in "How to" for Origami Tessellation and eventually found this John Smith Hydrangea PDF (below) that provided simple and easy instructions to follow. And that is where it all started.
With working full time and being a single mother to a daughter, I have at times left my hobbies and love behind. I am now in a place where I can dedicate some time and effort to do the things that I enjoy. Looking back now, I can see how stale I had become by not doing things for myself. I often admire and wonder how people can become successful and create a living by doing things you love. I never knew the answer to this so I did not try. I could not see the end result. However, recently I heard of someone say that "If you did not have to worry about money, what would you do with your life? The answer is your calling. Follow this and everything will fall into place".
This resonated for me. I love arts and crafts, DIY and anything that you can create with your own two hands. I still don't see how this could possibly make me successful, however I am taking that leap of faith, because it certainly brings me a level of happiness and peace. That in itself is a success.
So I have just begun again. Here are some of my humble beginnings bared for anyone to see. I have also opened a Etsy store and regardless of my fears of not succeeding I will feel the fear and do it anyway.
There are so many resources if you would like to try these on your own. To begin the basic's, take a look at my short blog here:

This page will be a collection of my favourite projects that you can make at home by your self and directions on how to achieve it. In time I will attempt some of the projects and blog my experience via video or picture illustrations good or bad.
