Another very helpful instruction is how to create a hexagon shape from a piece of square paper. The hexagon can be a common base shape to attempt some of the tessellations so this is a great tip to know. Link has been provided by Origami Resources.

I have found using great quality Japanese origami paper the easiest to use for your final products, whilst practice folds have been using ordinary paper to allow for possible mistakes. Some papers can tear and not hold up to the consistent folds, however origami is designed specifically so it can with stand the treatment.
